STUDENT COUNCIL

The student council is an organized group of St. Catherine students elected by their classmates and teachers to represent the student body. They meet regularly sharing in the life of the school, discussing real problems and speaking honest concerns. It is a learning experience about life, democracy, responsibility and ourselves. Membership must follow student council constitutional bylaws.

Student Council membership consists of officers, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, and 3 Representatives from each middle school homeroom. Typically officers are elected by student vote at the end of a school yearto serve during the following year. Representatives are elected by members of their homeroom at the beginning of each school year. To be eligible to run for student council, students must maintain a grade average of 75 or above in each of their classes. Students also must obtain approval from each teacher. Those who fail to maintain adaquate grades or who have discipline issues may be asked to resign their position.

There are many various projects sponsored by student council. In the past student council has hosted the Howdy Dance, school supply packets, Valentine express, concessions during athletic events, movie / game nights and the 8th Grade memory book. They have attended field trips to Sea World, Running R Ranch and Fiesta Texas. Additionally, funds raised by student council have been used to help fund academic field trips to the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Texas State Capital, George Bush and Lyndon Johnson Presidential Libraries and also the purchase of track shirts and athletic uniforms.
